I am excited to announce my candidacy for the 42nd District House Representative Seat. My desire to serve the people of Whatcom County runs deep. Since immigrating from Punjab, India as a teenager in 1996, I have made Whatcom County my home. My wife, Tami, and I have settled in the Blaine area with our multi-generational household and our four-legged friends.
I attended Bellingham Technical College, where I earned degrees in both Automotive Technology and Construction Technology. I also spent time working with Whatcom County Hospice as a nursing assistant. These diverse educational and career experiences offer me a unique perspective on Whatcom County.
I believe that a healthy and thriving community must offer a wide variety of employment opportunities. I am convinced that the people of the 42nd District, all the people, will be best served by electing officials who truly represent them and are not simply career politicians. I firmly believe that as an elected official, you work for the people, not special interests. I want to see all the people of Whatcom County feel proud of their community, where they live, work, and raise their families. When there is a sense of pride in a community, there is strength. We share a beautiful corner of the world and need to work together to make it the best place it can be. We may not all share the same ideas, but we can come together with mutual respect for the sake of our community and everyone within it.
One of my biggest concerns continues to be the safety of our communities. Law enforcement is being bound by poor legislation, and we need to change this to support them and allow them to do their jobs effectively. Our beautiful city is seeing a rise in crime as criminals are emboldened by a lack of consequences. If we don't get this under control, I fear things will continue to worsen. We must restore authority to our first responders.
Another area of great concern is our school systems. The function of our educational system should be to educate our children and nurture a love of reading, an aptitude for writing, an understanding of the sciences, and an ability to manage their personal finances. Beyond that, it is the family's responsibility to teach children kindness, respect, and community.
